Matt's presentation : Hometown --> Knoxville, Tennessee ![]()
The largest city in the State of Tennessee is Memphis, home
of the Memphis Grizzlies.
The second largest city is Nashville, which is also the State's Capital City.
And the third largest city is Knoxville
, population 200.000.
One hour away by car from Knoxville is the Smokey Mountains National Park
Matt lives in the outskirts of Knoxville, in a peaceful, quiet neighbourhood in the woods. His family own a typical American house with a front and back yard, a driveway and a deck (terrace) where they meet their friends and do barbecue parties.
'Rocky top' is the anthem of the Tennessee State University
Lyrics:
Wish that I was on ol' Rocky Top
Down in the Tennessee hills
Aint' no smoggy smoke on Rocky Top
Ain't no telephone bills
Once I had a girl on Rocky Top
Half bear, the other half cat
Wild as a mink,
but sweet as soda pop
I still dream about that.
Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee
Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top
Lookin' for a moonshine still
Strangers ain't come down from Rocky Top
Reckon they never will
Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee
Corn won't grow at all on Rocky Top
Dirt's too rocky by far
That's why all the folks on Rocky Top
Get their corn from a jar
Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee
I've had years of cramped-up city life
Trapped like a duck in a pen
All I know is it's a pity life
Can't be simple again
Rocky Top you'll always be
Home sweet home to me
Good ol' Rocky Top
Rocky Top Tennessee,
Rocky Top Tennessee
Speaking ---> what's the word?
Students were given a card with a picture of a person, place, or thing. Then all of them came in turns to the front and used their own linguistic resources to define the person, place, or thing on the card. The rest of the class had to guess the word.
